In-form Chelsea head to the South Coast to take on bottom-placed Southampton in the Premier League.

After a 3-0 win over Aston Villa, Chelsea are gaining attention for a potential title challenge. Under Enzo Maresca, they’ve been one of the most impressive teams in the league, sitting tied second with Arsenal. Their attacking form and first league clean sheet since September made for a perfect outing. However, both Maresca and Cole Palmer dismissed title talk, acknowledging it’s still early in their project.

This midweek, Chelsea have a chance to move into second, as they face bottom-placed Southampton, who have struggled this season. Southampton have been resilient in recent matches, including a 1-1 draw at Brighton and a close loss to Liverpool, but remain at the bottom with just one win all season. 

Despite a good record against Chelsea in recent years, Southampton face tough upcoming fixtures, and Opta’s 94% chance of relegation reflects their struggles. With the fewest goals scored and defensive errors mounting, manager Russell Martin is under pressure to turn things around.
